French Intermediate Plus (B2) Level

Stages 16-20 of the Languistique French Learning Path

Through five stages, you will develop the language needed to socialise naturally, handle workplace and consumer situations, and respond confidently to different viewpoints.

Is Intermediate Plus Level (B2) Right for You?

This level may be suitable if you:

  • can communicate independently in most situations
  • understand longer spoken and written French on a range of topics
  • can discuss experiences, opinions and social issues with confidence
  • feel comfortable expressing and justifying your views
  • have completed B1 or have equivalent knowledge
  • are ready to communicate more naturally and spontaneously in French

CEFR B2 (Upper Intermediate) is the fourth level of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages, an international standard for measuring language proficiency.

CEFR Levels:
A1 Beginner → A2 Elementary → B1 Intermediate → B2 Upper Intermediate → C1 Advanced → C2 Proficient

The Languistique French Intermediate Plus Level corresponds to CEFR B2 (Upper Intermediate) and covers Stages 16-20 of the Learning Path.

What Can You Do By the End of Intermediate Plus (B2) Level?

By the end of Stages 16-20, you should be able to:

  • socialise naturally in a wide range of situations
  • express feelings, reactions and opinions with greater precision
  • justify viewpoints and respond to different perspectives
  • handle workplace, shopping and consumer situations confidently
  • resolve practical problems related to accommodation, health and everyday life
  • use more colloquial French in conversations and discussions

Vocabulary

Throughout Stages 16-20, you will build vocabulary related to:

  • invitations, hospitality and social occasions
  • workplace communication and professional situations
  • shopping, consumer issues and customer service
  • accommodation, health concerns and everyday problems
  • French lifestyles, leisure activities and consumer habits
  • discussion, persuasion and debate

Grammar and Verbs

Develop confidence with:

  • the conditional and si clauses
  • the plus-que-parfait and advanced past-time references
  • the subjunctive in common situations
  • the passive voice
  • relative pronouns and more complex pronoun use
  • giving advice, persuading and defending viewpoints
  • linking ideas into longer, more sophisticated arguments

Reading and Listening

Improve your ability to:

  • understand workplace conversations and professional interactions
  • follow discussions involving different viewpoints
  • understand customer complaints, service issues and practical problems
  • engage with articles, interviews and reports on contemporary topics
  • identify key information in increasingly authentic French materials

Speaking

Develop confidence in:

  • maintaining conversations naturally
  • responding spontaneously to questions and comments

  • agreeing, disagreeing and reaching compromises

  • adapting language to different situations and audiences

Stage 16: Socialising in French

Use French more naturally when socialising, extending invitations, hosting guests and participating in everyday conversations.

Stage 17: Workplace Communication

Handle professional interactions, discuss workplace situations and communicate more confidently in a work environment.

Stage 18: Shopping and Consumer Issues

Discuss products and services, make complaints, request refunds and deal with consumer-related problems.

Stage 19: Problem Solving and Real-Life Situations

Explain problems, seek solutions and manage challenges related to accommodation, health and everyday life.

Stage 20: Debate and Extension

Express and defend opinions, respond to different viewpoints and use more colloquial French in discussions and debates.

B2 is designed for learners who can already communicate confidently on a wide range of familiar topics. You should be comfortable discussing experiences, opinions, current issues and future plans before starting this level.
