Stages 21-26 of the Languistique French Learning Path

Through six stages, you will refine your advanced French skills through authentic French materials, in-depth discussions and contemporary topics.

Is Advanced Level (C1) Right for You?

This level may be suitable if you:

  • can communicate confidently and fluently in most situations
  • understand authentic French materials on a wide range of topics
  • can express and defend opinions in discussions and debates
  • feel comfortable discussing social, cultural and contemporary issues
  • have completed B2 or have equivalent knowledge
  • wish to refine your French and engage with more complex ideas

CEFR C1 (Advanced) is the fifth level of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages, an international standard for measuring language proficiency.

CEFR Levels:
A1 Beginner → A2 Elementary → B1 Intermediate → B2 Upper Intermediate → C1 Advanced → C2 Proficient

The Languistique French Advanced Level corresponds to CEFR C1 (Advanced) and covers Stages 21-26 of the Learning Path.

What Can You Do By the End of Advanced (C1) Level?

By the end of Stages 21-26, you should be able to:

  • discuss health, lifestyle, technology and media in depth
  • analyse social and cultural issues from multiple perspectives
  • explore the causes and effects of contemporary trends
  • discuss French and francophone music, cinema, heritage and identity
  • interpret authentic French materials with confidence
  • communicate complex ideas with greater precision and nuance

Throughout Stages 21-26, you will build vocabulary related to:

  • health, wellbeing and lifestyle choices
  • sport, leisure and contemporary society
  • technology, media and digital life
  • diversity, volunteering and social issues
  • work, trade unions and public life
  • French and francophone music and cinema
  • heritage, traditions and cultural identity

Grammar and Verbs

Develop confidence with:

  • the present and past subjunctive
  • advanced passive structures
  • relative pronouns
  • the past historic
  • formal and written French
  • structures expressing cause, consequence and contrast
  • advanced verb forms and tense usage

Explore multiculturalism, volunteering, trade unions, working life and social change in France.

Stage 25: French and Francophone Music, Cinema and Culture

Discuss music, cinema and cultural influences while exploring aspects of French and francophone identity.

Stage 26: Heritage, Identity and Cultural Preservation

C1 is designed for learners who can already communicate confidently and fluently on a wide range of topics. You should be comfortable discussing complex issues, understanding authentic French materials and expressing opinions with confidence before starting this level.

Do I need a tutor?

No. The online course and learner packs can be used independently. Live lessons are available if you would like personalised support, feedback and advanced speaking practice.

What grammar will I learn at C1?
